Tom Brady Owns the Jets in More Ways Than One
Man, the New York Jets continue to find ways to be embarrassed. They have been dubbed the worst football team in 2017 months before the season even started. They haven’t won a championship since Super Bowl 3 with Joe Namath in 1968. The team still hasn’t escaped the shadow of the infamous butt fumble. And now Google is trolling them, listing Tom Brady as their owner in search results. A search of “Owner of Jets” delivers the results listed above. Hell, you don’t even have to hit enter before Google tells you Tom Brady is the Jets’ owner. Check out the screen grab below.
Pats fans, such as myself, have certainly delighted in this internet prank. I Googled it on mobile as well to ensure everyone can enjoy this hoax from every device. Everything checks out.
Now, I could get all technical and explain that Google pulls data from sites like Wikipedia to deliver open graph results. And that anyone can edit Wikipedia, therefore creating pranks such as this before a human being catches and fixes it.
But screw that. Let’s talk about how Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr. has a 23-7 record against the NY Jets. The technical owner of the team, Woody Johnson, probably handed the team over to Tom as Tom has truly owned them for the last 16 years.
Because the story has gone viral, Google has fixed the results. However, if you search for New York Jets and look over in the right rail, you’ll still see Brady listed as the team’s owner.
