System of a Down Singer is Perfect for Game of Thrones Song
System of a Down is one of the greatest bands I have ever seen live. No bullshit grandstanding. No political statements or ramblings about their art. Lead singer Serj Tankian and the band just went up there and ripped for over two hours straight. Which is even more incredible than it sounds when you consider most of their songs are barely longer than 2.5 minutes.
Tankian has an extremely underrated singing voice. I think because he came up in the era of rap-rock with bands like Limp Bizkit, he’s lumped into a genre that is undeserved. Serj induces chills anytime he touches a microphone during a live event.
Which brings us to this beautiful cover of Game of Thrones‘ “The Rains of Castamere”. The popular song isn’t the “theme” of GoT, but it is the unofficial Lannister family anthem. You generally hear the song on the hit HBO show anytime the Lannister family pulls off some bullshit – such as the infamous Red Wedding at the end of season three.
I need more Serj Tankian in my life.
