Clever Note Gets Mercy From Officer
I’ve tried to get out of parking tickets so many different ways. More than once I left notes saying I was out of gas or was late for class. I left old tickets in the windshield thinking the parking enforcer would somehow think they already gave me a ticket that day. I’ve even tied bags over the meter hoping they would think the meter was broken. Nothing worked. But my hero of the week got drunk and simply left a note asking for mercy. And it worked!
Officer Jim Hellrood of Wausau, Wisconsin, came upon the illegally parked vehicle and showed cops have hearts. And police officers are willing to look the other way and reward citizens for doing the right thing. The note, left by an unnamed person, basically says, “I got drunk and walked home instead of driving. Please don’t give me a ticket.” Officer Hellrood accepted the plea for mercy and let the suspect off with just a warning.
I’m glad the Sauce Monster didn’t have to pay for a ticket after a night of partying. I am. But I also read on CBS News that the ticket would only have been $5. FIVE DOLLARS! Even if the party person DID have to pay a fee, I wouldn’t feel bad for them. $5 is how much a Bud Light costs in an LA bar. A parking ticket here runs you $72. I’d gladly pay five bucks to leave my car wherever I wanted for a night.
